Advanced ESL Class
Saturday, January 25, 2020, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at the Rutherford Public Library - Glass Room
The Rutherford Public Library Advanced ESL classes will return Saturdays from 11:00 am-1:00 pm. This class will be held weekly. This class is for students who speak, understand, read, and write English at a high intermediate level but are looking to do one or more of the following: get a better job; improve pronunciation and master sounds not in their native language; express complex ideas; prepare for the TOEFL exam; help their children with their writing homework, perfect their grammar syntax; learn to use business language; and learn more about American culture. Literary Character Contest
Saturday, January 25, 2020, 12:00 pm-3:00 pm at the Rutherford Public Library
The Friends of the Library of Rutherford will present its next Literary Character Contest on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm. This contest is open to all ages and all are welcome to participate. Registration for the contest is free. For this contest, entrants are encouraged to dress as their favorite literary character or author. They will be asked to perform or read an excerpt from a book, poem, or nursery rhyme or to sing a song. Judges will reward the winners for Most Creative and Best Depiction categories and a People’s Choice winner will be chosen by contest attendees at $1 per vote. All winners will receive Barnes & Noble gift cards. All are welcome! You may pick up an entry form at the library or print one out from RutherfordLibrary.org. The deadline is Tuesday, Jan. 21. JWCR 15th Annual Spelling Bee
Friday, January 24th @ 7:00 pm at Union School Auditorium
Registration begins at 6:30 pm
(Snow date: Jan. 31st)
All students in the 4th and 5th grades are eligible for the Spelling Bee competition. Winners will be eligible to participate in the District and State Spelling Bees sponsored by the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs. Valuable prizes awarded!

Visit the Meadowlands Museum

The Museum is home to the largest collection of historical artifacts of the Meadowlands Region of NJ, and includes a special exhibit on Notable Women of the Meadowlands (on exhibit until September 2019), and permanent exhibits on the geology of the Meadowlands Region, antique toys and dolls, a pre-electric kitchen, antique tools, and an exhibit dedicated to the life and work of Dr. William Carlos Williams – the area’s famous doctor/poet. The Museum is housed in one of oldest Dutch farmhouses of southern Bergen County, and was a private home until the Museum purchased the property in 1974.
