Police Blotter 3/2-3/8: Theft, Shoplifting and Too Late To Pick Up Shoes

This is Rutherford publishes incidents that the public may find interesting or informative. The Blotter represents a small fraction of the total calls the RDP responds to regularly. The following information was provided to TIR by the Rutherford Police. All suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Incidents involving juveniles will not be published.

 

Sunday, March 8 - Noise Complaint, Chestnut St

At approximately 10:49 pm a 66-year-old male reported his neighbor upstairs and her young child making excessive noise. Officers responded and found the complaint unfounded.


Friday, March 6 - Intoxicated Person, Park Ave

At approximately 11:26 pm Officer Alexandra Arnold observed a male party stumbling. He appeared intoxicated. She reported the 41-year old man may have been a hazard to himself and he was transported to a local hospital.


Friday, March 6 - Theft, Franklin Place

At approximately 2:04 pm a store owner reported that at approximately 10:00 am a man entered his store and stole a U.S. silver certificate and coin set with a combined value of $110 by exiting with it under his arm. The suspect is described as an older white male wearing a blue long sleeve shirt and blue pants. He left going west on Franklin Ave.


Friday, March 6 - Suspicious Incident, Rutherford Ave

A contractor working near Orient Way reported that on February 28 and March 3 at approximately 6:30 pm he observed a white 2012 Mazda near his company’s equipment on Veteran’s Blvd. The vehicle left both times before he could approach it. He stated the vehicle left the area towards Highland Cross.


Thursday, March 5 - Motor Vehicle Theft, Chestnut Street

A victim reported that between 1:53 am and 7:58 am on March 5 his 2015 Kia Sorrento had been stolen from his driveway, which was believed to be unlocked with the keys on the front seat. The vehicle was featured as breaking news for a multi-jurisdictional pursuit ending in NY State.


Thursday, March 5 - Burglary, Lincoln Ave

A 44-year-old female reported finding a man wearing a ski mask crawling on the floor of her bedroom. All officers were dispatched while the victim stayed on the phone. Her back door was open. The investigation is ongoing.


Wednesday, March 4 - Criminal Mischief, Feronia Way

At approximately 8:43 am a 56-year-old male responded to RPD to report the side of his garage appeared to have been forced in. He does not believe any property was taken but has been involved in an ongoing dispute with a contractor who still has his tools in his garage. The contractor was contacted and agreed there’s a payment dispute but has not been back to the property.


Tuesday, March 3 - Shoplifting, Jackson Ave

At approximately 5:43 pm a 911 caller reported a shoplifting in progress at the 7/11 on Jackson Ave. Officers responded and security cameras revealed no shoplifting at the time but previous store footage showed the suspect in the act of shoplifting. A check revealed the 41-year-old female Rutherford resident had warrants for traffic violations out of Cedar Grove and Brick Township. She was placed under arrest and processed after initially refusing to give any personal information.


Monday, March 2 - Dispute, Addison Ave

At approximately 2:23 am a 38 year old female reported that the father of her child, a 36-year-old man from Passaic, was knocking on her door because he wanted his sneakers, but she told him it was too late to retrieve them. She requested RPD assistance but upon arrival, the dispute was already settled.
