Kiwanis Club Returns to the Meadowlands Area

Submitted by Miranda Burton, Kiwanis International

When people say, "It takes a village,"they highlight the power of communities coming

together in service to others. Service is at the core of every Kiwanis club. Kiwanis

members lead more than 150,000 service projects, contribute over six million service

hours, and raise nearly $100 million each year to support communities, families, and

important causes. Key Club members add 12 million service hours annually, CKI

members contribute another 500,000 hours, and Aktion Club members give 92,000 more. Altogether, Kiwanis family members provide more than 19 million hours of service each year—and that total will grow with the new club being organized in the Meadowlands area to support children and community needs in Rutherford, East Rutherford, Lyndhurst, and nearby communities.

Miranda Burton and her dedicated team of Kiwanis volunteers will travel to the

Meadowlands area during the week of June 1 to help establish a new Kiwanis club.

They will meet with interested community members to share information, identify

meaningful service opportunities, and build support for the new club. Burton and her team have already been contacting schools, business leaders, and residents to

schedule meetings, and they continue to welcome additional appointments with anyone interested in learning more or asking questions.

The Kiwanis Defining Statement is “Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers

dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time.” Their focus is

children, and it is stated on their website that a Kiwanian, on average, impacts the lives

of 206 children each year.

Founded on January 21, 1915, Kiwanis International has served communities for 110 years and now reaches more than 80 countries. The organization supports service leadership programs for all ages, including Aktion Club for adults with disabilities, Circle K International for college and university students, Key Club for high school students, Builders Club for middle school students, and K-Kids for elementary school students. Kiwanis meets the needs of children locally and worldwide by raising funds, awarding

grants, and providing resources to clubs and members. Members also support programs such as Young Children: Priority One, BUGS (Bringing Up Grades), Terrific Kids, and Key Leader, a leadership retreat for teens ages 14–18.
