64 Park Gift Boutique, or Goffins, has been in business for almost eight decades. The store has a rich history and Barry Goffin, the owner, has always been involved in the community. This is Rutherford interviewed, Barry Goffin, one of our six Anchor Sponsors, to learn more about the store, its history, how they support the community, and their upcoming events.
TIR: How long has 64 Park Gift Boutique/ Goffins been in business in Rutherford?
Barry Goffin: We've been here since 1947; 77 years.
TIR: What are some of the most significant changes that have been made?
BG: Goffins started with toys, candy, office supplies, art supplies, books, magazines, newspapers, and cigarettes. J.C Hall (founder of Hallmark Cards) got my father to agree to put wire card racks on the ends of the toy tables. In 1953, the store was remodeled and became the first Hallmark Crown shop in NJ. In 2016 we reimagined the boutique-department store concept with the gift boutique in the front and the card & gift
in the back. We restored the original tin ceiling and repainted the brick walls. All lighting was replaced with low-energy LED.
TIR: Which traditions and business practices have remained the same throughout the many years your business has been in Rutherford?
BG: Customer service has always been paramount in this family business. Knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful staff; always.
TIR: What are some of the upcoming promotions and events that will take place at 64 Park Gift Boutique?
BG: Our next two holiday events are our Keepsake Ornament Debut party on October 12 and the VIP Holiday Open House, which will take place on Friday, November 8th.
TIR: How does your business give back to the local community?
BG: We currently sponsor the Rutherford PBA Golf Outing, Rutherford Public Library mini golf event, Rutherford Little League, Rutherford Girls Softball, Rutherford's Soccer League, REF Wine Tasting, Rutherford Civil Rights Commission's Multicultural Festival, and the Rutherford Pride Alliance.
