Announcer Workshop on Saturday, July 27, 2019, at the Meadowlands Racetrack.
The workshop, open to all ages, will be conducted by Meadowlands and Freehold Raceway announcer Ken Warkentin, who has called over 200,000 Standardbred and Thoroughbred races, including 19 Hambletonians. Warkentin, who started calling races at age 16, has been on racing broadcast teams for CBS, NBC and ESPN. He provides voice overs for a variety of outlets and has a website, http://www.kenvoice.com/.
The day's events will start at 9 a.m. at the track and wrap up with students who wish to do so calling one of the non-betting, non-purse races for 2 year olds that will start at 10 a.m. If the number of students who want to call a race exceeds the number of races that day, a random draw will be held to match a student with a race.
Tuition is $25. Tuition will take the form of a tax deductible donation to the Harness Horse Youth Foundation. Class size is limited to 30.

Farmer’s Market
Saturday, July 27 @ 8:00 am - 2:00 pm at Williams Plaza
The Rutherford Farmer’s Market is in its 22nd season. The market is sponsored this year by the Borough of Rutherford. The governing body welcomes the opportunity to support regional farmers by allowing them to market quality products in our downtown area. To remain competitive, farmers need to be able to develop new markets for agricultural products grown on their farms. These markets provide the economic activity necessary to help preserve farmland and open space, which in turn contributes to a better quality of life in our region. Our borough benefits because market patrons have access to fresh, high quality produce and our local businesses enjoy increased business activity.
Vendors for this year include:
• Becca’s Bakery –Amish baked goods: apple dumplings, whoopie pies, donuts, breads, cookies, honey, jams and apple butter - Wednesdays
• Sy Grisconis Farm – Fresh produce
• Dr. Pickle – Pickles and brine cured products - Wednesdays

Amulets, Erotica, and Larum at Harpy
Sunday July 28th @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm at Harpy, 92 Park Avenue Suite 2, Rutherford
AMULETS is the solo project of Portland-based audio + visual artist Randall Taylor. Amulets employs handmade cassette tape loops and live processed guitar loops to create live, lush soundscapes and immersive drones. Through the re-contextualization of cassettes, sampling, field recording, and looping, these long-form compositions blur the genres of ambient, drone, noise, and electronic music.
Larum is an electronic ensemble with Micah Frank and Chet Doxas. Throughout their pieces they navigate a world of nostalgic, analog tape loops and layers of woodwinds through lush, synthetic soundscapes. From fugue-infused drones to immensely sprawling overtures, their improvised performances build towards celestial heights that disintegrate and re-evolve into new solid forms.
