Relay For Life of Rutherford was established in 2012 and since then the community has raised over $500,000 cancer fighting dollars. The event ranges anywhere from 400 to 700 participants, 30-50 teams, and celebrates 30-60 survivors. Other than amazing survivors and caregivers, participants, and team captains, Relay For Life of Rutherford partners with community businesses who helps the organization reach their goals. Some of the event sponsors include: Dan Meredith Agency, LLC: Allstate Insurance, BCB Bank of Rutherford, Inserra ShopRite, Frank’s GMC, Matera’s On Park, Alfred M. Fiume Foundation and so much more. They also have numerous supporters who have provided donations, volunteered, and help promote the annual event.
The Event Leadership Team (ELT) is made up of 15 volunteers who are determined to finish the fight against cancer. The committee consists of community residents from Rutherford and surrounding towns as well as high school students. The committee works year-round to ensure that the participants have a great Relay For Life experience and to promote the services and programs the American Cancer Society offers. The committee meets monthly to plan the event, fundraisers, recruit teams, honor survivors and caregivers, and secure event logistics.
