September is Library Card Sign-up Month.
Get your Rutherford Library card today!
Did you know that 51% of Rutherford residents have library cards? If you aren’t one of them,
what are you waiting for? It’s never too late to join Rutherford Public Library.
September is known nationally as Library Card Sign-up Month, so now is a great time to get
your first library card or renew one that has lapsed. Simply visit the library at 150 Park Avenue
with proof of Rutherford residency to sign up. You may even begin the process online, although you will need to verify your account in person within thirty days in order to upgrade to full borrowing privileges. Residents attending Rutherford Day on September 26 may also visit the library’s booth to register for a card.
Residents and property owners of all ages are eligible for a free library card. Children enrolled in the Rutherford Public Schools visit the library in grades K-3, at which point they may also get a library card with parental approval.
Library cards provide access to countless resources. In addition to Rutherford’s physical
collection of books, magazines, DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks, cardholders also receive
borrowing privileges at all 78 BCCLS libraries, located throughout Bergen, Hudson, Essex, and Passaic Counties. Visit other libraries to take advantage of their collections, or request items be delivered to Rutherford in just a couple of days.
Aside from traditional physical items, our cardholders also have free access to the following:
● Downloadable ebooks and audiobooks through the Libby and Hoopla apps
● Digital access to the New York Times, Washington Post, and Wall Street Journal
● Free passes to local and regional museums
● A Library of Things full of fun and useful household items, such as tools, mobile internet
hotspots, lawn games, a sewing machine, and more
● Research databases on topics such as genealogy, finance, foreign language learning,
and more
● Virtual tutoring and career resources through Brainfuse
● Virtual arts and crafts classes through Creativebug
● Bold Yoga, our on-demand virtual yoga studio
● Home delivery of library materials for those who cannot visit the library due to temporary
or permanent disability
