Scouts Spread Holiday Cheer with Donut and Wreath Sales

Submitted by Pamela Tully

The Borough of Rutherford has two BSA troops that participate in many events within our community. Even though "BSA" stands for "Boy Scouts of America," Scouts went co-ed three years ago nationally. Rutherford is lucky to have both Troop 166 for young men and Troop 166G for young women, ages 11 - 17. Both BSA troops are currently holding holiday fundraisers.

Both Troops are active in the community, teach life skills, and are currently fundraising.

Troop 166G is newly established with 14 female members. The 166G Scouts are earning money for uniform pieces, camping and cooking gear, and upcoming activities. Troop 166 has a fifty-plus-year history in Rutherford with more than 50 male Scouts. The 166 Scouts are earning money for awards and upcoming activities. Both groups are chartered under the Boy Scouts of America and have separate leadership. To learn more about these troops, click here. For more information, contact Troop 166G Scoutmaster- Ginny Bowers Coleman, ScoutmasterG@RutherfordScouts.org or Troop 166B Scoutmaster- Eric Makar, efmakar13@gmail.com

Troop 166G is currently holding a Krispy Kreme Digital Dozens fundraiser. For $10, Krispy Kreme will email you a code good for a dozen Krispy Kreme original glazed donuts (retails at $14.99), good at any Krispy Kreme. This is a contact-less fundraiser driven by the Troop on social media. The Krispy Kreme fundraiser will run until December 21, which makes it ideal for thanking a police officer, first responder, postal worker, teacher, crossing guard, or family friend with end-of-the-year or holiday gifts. To participate in this nationwide fundraiser with no expiration date:

1- Sign up on the google form, click here.

2- Pay by Venmo (or cash/check given to a Troop 166G Scout)

3- The coupon code will be sent to your email and will be ready for you to redeem in person, or email, or print and give.

Troop 166 is holding its annual wreath sale to help support its costs. These are fresh pine branch wreaths with a red bow on them. The Troop usually has them for sale at the Holiday Festival and sells out within an hour. This year, they have to rely more on traditional orders. Troop 166 is selling 22” wreaths for $15 each, and a variety of sized grave blankets ($18 for small, $24 for medium, and $33 for large).

Please give payment (cash or check to Troop 166) when placing an order with a Troop 166B Scout. Orders are placed at the Tuesday Troop meetings, and distributed the following Tuesday, ending 12/15. Arrange with your selling Scout for delivery or pickup.

For additional information please contact Scoutmaster Eric Makar.
