On July 21st, the nonprofit Rutherford Swim Association reopened the Rutherford Pool, which is located in Rutherford High School. The pool opened in September 2019 under RSA's operation and the nonprofit had just begun to hit its stride with new programming, including a competitive nationals swim team and a partnership with the Special Olympics of New Jersey when the pandemic hit.
RSA was founded by two local guys, Mike Lazzara and Chris Dunn, who swam their entire lives in Rutherford, first on the Stingrays club team and later for the high school. They both went on to swim at the collegiate level. Helping to save the pool was their way of giving back to their community. They are passionate about revitalizing this community treasure while creating a safe space for local athletes.
The guidelines for keeping families safe and healthy are posted on their website. Click here.
