Rutherford High School's Academic Decathlon finished in 2nd place in the Regional Competition last week. They will now continue onto the State Competition in March, where they will compete against the top 15 teams in the state.
This year's Academic Decathlon theme is the American Revolution and the New Nation. While participating in the various competitions students have to be prepared to answer questions regarding this topic across many disciplines, such as art, music, economics, literature, science, and social science.
During this Regional Competition, there were many RHS Academic Decathlon team members who were recognized for their outstanding achievements. Kia Parikh won Golds in Art, Essay, and Speech. She received a perfect score for her 4-minute prepared speech. Kayleigh Griffin was named the team MVP. She won 1st place in the region in her GPA category, and Golds in Literature, Art, and Economics. Nico Schumacher won 2nd place in the region in her GPA category, and Golds in Music, Art, and Essay. Erica Chen earned 2nd place in the region in her GPA category, seven awards (out of 10), and a Gold in Literature.
Vridhee Khanna received a Gold in Science.
