Rutherford Public Library will hold its first solo artist show featuring scenes of Rutherford, New Jersey, painted by artist Mark Ferguson. The exhibit will open on Thursday, July 10 with a reception with the artist at 4 pm. The acrylic paintings will be on display on the mezzanine level of the library through August 29.
“I am so excited about having my first solo exhibition!” said Mark Ferguson, a Rutherford resident for more than 25 years. “I chose Rutherford for my subject because of its century-old houses, streets, and environs. In my paintings, I try to capture a moment in time of these settings in their natural beauty.”
“This is a first for the library too,” said Gretchen Kaser Corsillo, director of the Rutherford Public Library. “We aspire to be the hub of the community. Featuring a local artist whose work is dedicated to Rutherford themes seemed like a good match for our mission and vision of how the library serves the community.”
Ferguson’s acrylic paintings are an intimate look at Rutherford. Measuring 14 by 18 inches (18 x 22 with frames, which are part of the picture), the paintings slice up Ferguson’s subject of Rutherford like the plots of land in his town, depicting the variety of homes and shared spaces found in the borough.
Mark Ferguson’s solo exhibition will open on Thursday, July 10th, at the Rutherford Public Library and run through Friday, August 29.
