Kindness Corner at the Rutherford Public Library

This past Saturday, September 19th, Claudia Mazzola and Kenzie Mutucumarana held the Grand Opening of the Kindness Corner at the Rutherford Public Library.

Claudia explained what the Kindness Corner is, "The Kindness Corner is a special place at the library where children can learn about kindness and find fun ways to practice it. We want children to be able to stop by the Kindness Corner while they are at the library and participate in activities such as kindness challenges, writing kind notes, and other activities that encourage children to be kind to themselves and others. We also plan to have small items that children can take with them as reminders to spread kindness. Our goal is to make the space fun, welcoming, and something that children will want to come back to throughout the year."

Claudia and Kenzie chose the Kindness Corner as their Girl Scout Silver project award to positively impact children in the community. They are hoping that the project continues and becomes a resource that the patrons of the library will continue using and updating throughout the year. "Our biggest goal is to create something that continues to help children even after our Silver Award is finished. We want the library to have the supplies and funding needed to keep the Kindness Corner active and continue hosting kindness activities for children in our community," Kenzie explained.

During the Grand Opening, Claudia and Kenzie read a book to visitors and handed out small handmade prizes, such as pins with words of kindness.
