The Borough of Rutherford kicked off the holiday season this past weekend with the lighting of the Menorah in Lincoln Park on the first night of Hanukkah. On the night of Wednesday, December 1st, Temple Beth El hosted their annual Menorah Lighting and Gelt Drop. The Mayor and Council, Rutherford Fire Department, and Rutherford Police Department participated in these events as well.

On Saturday, November 27th, Native Development sponsored a Holiday Float that visited various locations around town to greet families and spread holiday cheer. On the float, Elmo, Olaf, and Santa entertained children of all ages. Live music was provided by Luke and the Troublemakers. Mayor and Council and their family members also traveled with the float. Chief John Russo and the Rutheford Police Department, Chief Dennis Gentile and the Rutherford Fire Department, Jennifer Capoano and Mike Tarantino, and the Rutherford First-Aid Ambulance Corps were also a part of the Touring Holiday Float.

After the Holiday Float made its way around town, the Christmas Tree Lighting took place in front of the Rutherford Public Library. From there, families made their way over to Lincoln Park to take part in the Holiday Village sponsored by BCB Bank. Mrs. Claus read stories to children at the Rutherford Health Department. Santa took photos and visited with children in a special tent in the park. There was a train, horse and carriage ride, food trucks, and a tent where children were invited by the Rutherford Arts Council to decorate ornaments for the Williams Center Christmas tree. The Scouts also sold Holiday wreaths inside the Gazebo.

The Rutherford DPW, Borough Employees, and the Rutherford Recreation Department were instrumental in coordinating the events throughout the day.
