About Town: Welcome to Town Top That! Donuts

Brand new to Rutherford, Top That! Donuts is located at 8 Highland Cross, conveniently located in the center of town, across the street from Lincoln Park. Their warm, made to order donuts are a welcome addition to our community and we had the opportunity to meet Nick Burgagni, co-owner of the Rutherford location.
TIR: Welcome to Rutherford! We are all looking forward to your warm, made to order donuts. When can we expect your business to be open?
NB: We are excited to be here! Top That! Donuts has a Grand Opening that is officially scheduled for Saturday, March 2nd. We will have a soft opening the weekend of February 16th and will be open various hours throughout the week. We plan on being open 7 days a week once we are fully operating.
TIR: This is the 2nd location for Top That! Donuts. The 1st location is in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ. Can you give us the history of Top That! Donuts?
NB: Top That! Donuts began in 2014 by North Arlington and Bergenfield natives, Chris and Danielle Wolowitz in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ. It’s a popular place for residents and especially vacationers during the summer. Myself and my brother, Al Burgagni, are the co-owners of the Rutherford location. We grew up with Chris in North Arlington and when he approached me about opening a 2nd location in Bergen County it felt right. We picked Rutherford, NJ because it’s close to home and my brother and I spent a lot of time here growing up. Top That! Donuts will be a family affair. We have many family members working with us including my niece, Brianna Rodriguez, who is our store manager, another niece, Samantha and my nephew, Anthony. We hired a lot of local teens from the surrounding areas and we look forward to meeting everyone in the community.
TIR: Your space is so welcoming and bright! What can customers expect when they come to Top That! Donuts?
NB: From the minute a customer steps through the door, they’ll be greeted by our friendly staff ready to take their order. Customers can choose their own toppings or select from our specialty donuts menu which includes Top That! Donuts favorites like, Pebbles & Bam Bam (vanilla or chocolate glazed donuts topped with fruity pebbles) or donuts exclusive to our Rutherford location, like The Aunt Ro Ro, named after my Aunt Rose Aloi. It’s a chocolate glazed donut with oreo cookie crumbles topped with sour gummy worms. She used to make us desserts in plant pots to look like plants so we had to dedicate a donut just for her.
Our donuts are made right in front of you and are served warm. We offer freshly roasted coffee delivered from Empire Coffee in Hoboken, NJ. We also have breakfast sandwiches on our menu. A favorite is our sausage, egg, and cheese (TIR tried this one. We definitely recommend!) and we plan on offering cold brew and Nitro brew coffee delivered straight from a tap.
You can enjoy your warm donuts in our cafe or take them home. We also have a nice kids’ corner for children while their parents enjoy a hot coffee and donuts.
TIR: Donuts are a hit with not only children but also with adults! Do you plan on offering special events at your location as well as catering?
NB: Yes, adults love donuts too! We will offer catering and we can also host private events at our location. We have space to host kids’ birthday parties and we are looking into providing a new trend, donuts walls, for special occasions.
TIR: Top That! Donuts’s core is built on family and community. How do you plan on contributing to the Rutherford community?
NB: We’ve already been approached by members of the community to help with fundraisers and events. Giving back to our community is definitely a priority. We look forward to participating in many town-wide events that Rutherford is known for including the Multicultural Fair and annual Labor Day Street Fair. We’ve already met many local residents and they’ve all been so welcoming. My brother, Al and I know we chose the perfect home for Top That! Donuts.
