Green Team Giving Reusable Shopping Bags To Residents

Submitted by Brian Hanson-Harding

In an effort to decrease use of single-use plastic bags, the Rutherford Green Team has produced an initial run of reusable shopping bags.

Bags will be made available to borough residents who sign a pledge to eliminate or reduce their use of single-use plastic bags. Tables will be set up for distributing bags at various  borough fairs and festivals.  Borough residents can also receive a free bag by attending Green Drinks, an informal bi-monthly gathering sponsored by the Green Team for those interested in talking about green issues.   The next Green Drinks will take place Thursday, December 5, 6:30-9:30 in the back room of the New Park Tavern, 250 Park Avenue in East Rutherford. Interested residents may stop in for as little as 10 minutes and have a drink, a snack, or a meal. Residents are asked to RSVP on Facebook or by email ( and share the event on Facebook or other social media pages in order to receive the free bag.
